An Update from Patrick

My friends,

It has been a long and exhausting journey through six intense rounds of chemotherapy, but I am officially done for now.  I am presently recovering at home, anxiously anticipating a scan in the middle of August that will show the results of my treatment.  My oncologist believes we will see positive results and that I will be able to move forward with my life.  I am praying that he is right.  This unplanned detour has provided me the opportunity to be reminded about what is important in life and how incredible it is to get to work in education.  During my six weeks in the hospital I would frequently find myself thinking about the wonderful faces  that I have had the chance to work with, equip, and inspire over the years.  To have many of those same people reach out to me in support at a time when I was not at my best made the process that much more tolerable.  Thank you!

More than fear and more than hope, I am now filled with a sense of excitement.  I am excited to be back to my family, I am excited to get back to enjoying life’s little things, and I am excited to get back to serving the field of education.  While I will be resting up in July, I will be back out on the road speaking to audiences by the middle of August.  I can’t wait!  It makes me want to shout out “WOOOO!!!!” just thinking about it!  I am excited to have the chance to help change the world for people who are out there changing the world for children.

Yes, there are many things still out of my control to worry about.  Yes, I will need to take care of myself first so that I can better take care of others.  Yes, I am going to live the rest of my life just one bad doctor appointment away from the absolute worst news.  But it is no different for you.  Life is a fragile thing, and for any one of us it can all come to an end in a moment’s notice.  But as long as we still find ourselves with more time today then we find ourselves with the time we need to make a bigger difference for others.   I can’t wait to get back to doing this work with you and I can’t wait to show you the better person that I can be moving forward.  Stay in touch and stay tuned, the best is yet to come!

P.S.  WOOOO!!!!!

You have changed me as a person and as an educator but most of all as a parent of a special needs child. I will forevermore be in your gratitude for the roads that you have paved and can’t wait to see what you do next. You are such a blessing to so many and I only pray that those blessings are returned back in full force to you and your family.
